Kiki Valentine – (Chanteuse, Director, Hostess, Producer)
Kiki Valentine is a writer, producer and actress. She began interviewing bands at the age of 16 and in college, in addition to working as an on-air deejay, she also joined the Academy Award winning Killer Films as a production assistant. In 2003 Kiki began independently producing and emceeing her own live shows incorporating live and electronic music, dance, and art. Notable collaborations at this time span a variety of diverse artists including Afrika Bambaataa, The Pontani Sisters, and Shepard Fairey. She later became the swing writer in the newsroom of Yahoo's Launch! Radio Networks, and when the company's parent network developed its largest radio program, Nights with Alice Cooper, Kiki began writing comedy (for public consumption) for the show and was quickly promoted to producer. Kiki also played alongside Alice Cooper as "Mistress Kitty", a character she developed specifically for the show. (If you ask her nicely she'll play clips for you). Kiki continued to pursue broadcast journalism in 2007 when she appeared on-air interviewing musicians like Iron Maiden with ABC News, and in 2008 she debuted her hit theatrical production, The Sunday Show, the unpredictable alternative cabaret which she writes, directs and hosts. She also continues to collaborate with CAKE, Moby, Art Brut, Story PIrates and other notable artists and friends producing and providing live entertainment on stage during their shows, music videos and more. She's excited to be on Wikipedia.
Kate Berlant (Performance)
Kate Berlant is the producer and host of Cake Shop's Crime & Punishment every Tuesday at 8:00pm. She was featured on Disney's hit television series Lizzie McGuire as Student #2. She has performed her absurdist PowerPoint Presentation "An Illustrative Colonoscopy Into An Epistemological Kitty Cat" in various spaces including Chicago's Alagon Gallery and recently at SITE fest in Brooklyn. She is pursuing a Masters degree at NYU, but her show at Cake Shop is still free. Because we all know comedy doesn't really pay the bills. Kate is also a lovely dancer and has a very large family.
Matt Brandeau (Bass)
Matthew Brandau (pronounced Brando) hails from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He began studying Jazz in high school then continued on at UNC-Chapel Hill. Somewhere along the way he took a left turn and was recruited into the Hip-Hop band Sankofa. "The Daredevil of Burlesque" has been dizzying the New York scene for the last three years with her LED and fire hula hoop performances. A regular at shows such as The Sunday Show and parties like Trash!, Justina's performance highlights also include appearances in films, on stage with the Dresden Dolls, hooping in silver body paint with the band Cake during a sold out show at Terminal 5 and her recent role as "The Tin Man" in Dorothy and Friends' Wizard of Bras. Off the stage, Justina spends her time crunching numbers at a music management company, accidentally setting household items on fire in her apartment and breaking hearts on the dance floor.
Reggie Watts (Performance)
Reggie Watts is a staple of the international performance scene with his improvised musical sets created on-the-spot using only his formidable voice and a looping machine. Much like Kiki's shows, no two songs are ever the same. As a solo performer, Reggie was handpicked by Conan O'Brien to open nightly on Conan's entire North American "Prohibited From Being Funny on Television" tour. Reggie released his debut comedy CD/DVD 'Why $#!+ So Crazy?' on Comedy Central Records in May 2010 and has a new album entitled 'Reggie Watts Live at Third Man Records' which will be available limited edition vinyl this spring. If he looks familiar, it's because Reggie has appeared on The Conan O'Brien Show, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, HBO's The Yes Men Save The World, Comedy Central's Michael and Michael Have Issues, UK's Funny Or Die, PBS' revamped Electric Company and the music video "What About Blowjobs?" for College Humor. As a musician, Reggie recorded the EP Pot Cookies through Normative Records, sang on Regina Spektor's "Dance Anthem of the 80s", contributed two tracks to DFA Records' Spaghetti Circus as well as recordeding original music featured on Louis CK's show on FX and performing the theme song for Kristin Schaal's Penelope Princess of Pets. He has played sold-out solo runs the world over and has received the ECNY Award (2009), the Andy Kaufmann Award (2006) for his brand of innovative stand-up performance and most recently, the ARGUS ANGEL AWARD (2010) In Recognition Of Artistic Excellence at the Brighton Festival.
Tina Tassels (Performance)
A South Jersey import (but we don't hold that against her), Tina has finally caught up with her dreams of being a NYC performance artist. Having recently graduated from the NY School of Burlesque, she is gaining confidence through a community that's allowing her to be sexually taunting and humorous without apology. With a background in television and print production, she is now bringing her own endeavors to center stage – and audiences can't get enough of her! Tina produced her first live show, Meat My Friends, in March 2011 and is working on new projects and collaborations.
